Murphysboro Chamber has planned a full day of events for a city wide St. Patricks Day Celebration. Make Historic Hull House your St. Patrick's getaway destination. SATURDAY, MARCH 18 Celebration Events. 9 A.M. – 30TH ANNUAL 5K WALK/RUN (Sponsored by The First Bank & Trust Company of Murphysboro & Carbondale Times): We invite you to participate in the Murphysboro St. Patrick’s Day 5K Walk/Run. The race will start at 9 a.m. The starting point will be at 11th Street and Walnut and the race will conclude on S. 11th Street. Check-in will be a Brews Brothers Taproom beginning at 8 a.m. Pre-registration fee is $20 ($10 for River to River Runners), $15 under 12, and 60 and older. Pre-registration deadline is Friday, March 3rd. Fee after March 3rd is an additional $5. Entry forms are available online at www.murphysborochamber.com or at our office. Call 618-684-6421 for more information. 9 A.M. – IRISH STEW COOK-OFF (Sponsored by Brews Bothers Taproom): The Cook-Off begins at 9 a.m. at Brews Brothers Taproom. Two member teams will cook on-site with traditional Irish Stew ingredients. Registration is $50 before March 10th – $75 after. Set up is in the lot across from Brews Brothers Taproom. Teams to provide all accommodations and equipment. Onsite judging begins at 1 p.m. and blind judging begins at 2 p.m. First – $300, Second – $200, Third – $100. There will also be a Crock-Pot Irish Stew Cook-Off. Entries are to be turned in at Brews Brothers Taproom between 11:30 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. Judging begins at 12:30 p.m. First place – $100. Second & Third place will receive medallions. Applications available at Brews Brothers Taproom and the Chamber office. 10 A.M. – DOWNTOWN MERCHANTS OPEN FOR BUSINESS: Stroll down Walnut Street and visit our many Antique and Specialty Shops. 11 A.M. – ST. PATRICK’S DAY PARADE (Sponsored by Walmart): All entries welcomed. Call the Chamber office to register or email angeloparade17@gmail.com. Participants meet at the Saint Andrew Church parking lot no later than 10:30 a.m. for your line up. For our spectators, the parade will start at 7th Street and go west down Walnut Street ending at 19th Street. CORNED BEEF & CABBAGE: Corned Beef & Cabbage will be available for purchase from Pat’s BBQ. 11:30 A.M. – 1:30 P.M. – IRISH KIDS’ FESTIVAL (Sponsored by St. Joseph Memorial Hospital): Bring the kids by the Murphysboro Youth & Recreation Center at 1818 Walnut Street for our Irish Kids’ Festival. Open to 1st through 6th graders. The kids will be able to enjoy arts, crafts, games, and storytelling. No fee required. Refreshments will be available for sale. 12 P.M. – 3 P.M. – SHAMROCK CRAFT BEER & SPIRITS TASTING (Sponsored by Brews Brothers Taproom): Come join us for a tasting of the finest craft beers and spirits in the area, brewed by local and regional brewers. Advance tickets are $20 at Brews Brothers Taproom or the Chamber office – $25 at the door on the 18th. Non-drinkers are $5. Price includes wristband, glass, and 12 tastings. Must be 21 years of age. 12 P.M. – LEPRECHUAN CLASSIC BAGS TOURNAMENT: Join us for this 2-person team event. Cost is $20 per team – no limit.
